The difference between being a worker and dependent on work

Working hard can bring you benefits or ups and downs. But even it can harm your health or break your family bond. How do you understand when to stop?

There are small differences between being worker and dependent on work. If you are nervous at leisure, or you are never satisfied with the work you are doing, you are working very hard.

Some of the biggest influencers at LinkedIn weighed this week how to understand if you are dependent on work and how to stop. Here's what they said:

Jullien Gordon

The workshop and hangman look the same from the outside, both look to work hard. The biggest difference lies in how they feel individually in relationship with their work.

First, there is a difference between doing work and being busy. Job number 1 is to be busy all the time. Hangers are busy with any time they have work, because they feel unsafe when they do nothing. Uncertainty comes from the lack of knowledge of their value. They think the more busy they will be, the more important they are.

Employees know where they have succeeded in a task or project. Hangers on the other hand do not know what's enough.

Gordon wrote that while workers know their value, dependents rely on overseas estimates. They wait all the time for estimates from others, or from annual reviews to understand whether they are good or bad.

Last but not least, explained Grodon, the addicts can not make the difference between what they can and what they can not control. Workers rely on their efforts, inputs and outputs. This is quite different from someone who focuses only on the result. Their desire to be compared often leads to wrong judgment by using a meter that is not always associated with efforts.

Joel Peterson

Sometimes, the biggest challenge of being dependent on work is that you do not know that you are dependent on it. Peterson points out some of the signs that show you are working hard and how to stop.

A Chicago Sun-Times editor said he could not take a vacation. He was afraid the country would be overturned without its presence. If you think the universe is up to you, you are in the critical realm of stress. Hire people who will do the job better than you do yourself and celebrate for their successes, pave the way for them, and reload the batteries.

Another sign? Your favorite phrase is: "Did you receive email?" Emails are a double-stacked knife. If you are disciplined it serves to save time. Conversely, it will turn into a constant intruder. Stay away from the emails for awhile, Peterson advised.

If you're all late, this is a warning sign to slow down. Decide to go 5 minutes early at any meeting or event. This will reduce the quality of thought and work, and will help you to prioritize and focus on the framework. That way you will do a short mental break.

Another sign of the addict and the annoying man is that you are unable to please. Food never looks good enough, income is never high enough ... but there is a solution, change your mind and repeat yourself: I have everything I need.

Peterson also underlined that most dependents live in the past or in the future. Both of these signals show that you are living out of the present, a vice that only leads you to stress. Learning to live the present is just as important as looking at the future. /BBC/
